Dec. 31st, 2008 01:32 amI want to choreograph a piece for DS (student-run dance group, if you're not at CMU) next semester, but I am not sure what music to use.
This is my open letter to the world asking for awesome and danceable songs. Tell me about good music. What makes you want to dance? Is there a song you'd like to see illustrated in motion onstage?
If this fails, I have an idea of a song I might use, but I am curious what, if anything, will turn up. (:
Styles of dance I am most comfortable with include various flavors of modern/contemporary, jazz, tap, swing-influenced, musical theatre, lyrical.
If you have a really great song, I should mention that I can theoretically do hip hop, but trying to do hip hop reminds me I am a skinny awkward white girl whose first exposure to hip hop dance was in a leotard and pink tights, with hair in a slick bun. I'm probably not terrible, but I am less than confident.
Ballet/pointe and acrobatics seem like seriously questionable ideas, in a student dance group where participants do not necessarily have dance training.
I am inexperienced in any forms of dance I did not mention above
