I am doing Thanksgiving with csjackso this year. Things are weird with my godfather's niece Kathy (not living with her husband anymore, not going to her sister's dinner in Virginia...), so this year I'm not going to McKeesport or wherever else she might have done Thanksgiving.

Anyway, we made up a menu.

Chris was responsible for the beer bread (which surprisingly doesn't taste like nasty beer-smell, and took way less time to make than normal bread) and an adaptation of his grandma's special recipe of nopeeki, a casserole involving onion soup mix, red wine, cream of mushroom soup (but we used cream of asparagus instead), and usually beef... but our version contains two potatoes, a yam, some baby carrots, and THREE CLOVES OF GARLIC NOM NOM NOM. It also takes three hours to bake, and smells goddamn delicious. It smells so delicious that I am hungry and eating brownies I randomly made last night and tiny furtive pieces of beer bread.

My responsibilities include orange-ginger marinated tofu (marinating since last night in a combination of orange juice, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, fresh ginger, cilantro and garlic, and some normal canola oil to fill it out), rice to accompany the above (maybe I will also toast some sesame seeds to top the tofu because I'm bored and hungry), and the dessert, a cake made with cornmeal, some normal flour, sugar, 1.5 sticks of butter, a little thing of yogurt, a little over a cup of strawberries, baking powder, salt and vanilla, which will be topped with whipped cream, more strawberries, and sliced almonds which I may also toast. I also purchased a bottle of sparkling grape juice because even though I mostly like to drink water, I've always thought sparkling juice drinks were fun.

Yesterday I slept a lot. A lot of sleeping, no showering, but I did calc in the morning. I also made grits, then my famous apple-gorgonzola-walnut salad, then after a nap, rajmah (kidney bean curry) over brown rice, topped with cheese because honestly, it's sorta like chili and I love cheese, almost as much as I love garlic, apparently. And a few days ago I made butternut squash gnocchi, and before that eggplant parmesan with Chris. So I have been making interesting foods lately, again. Next time I will not microwave the squash - parts of it were tough and I just ended up throwing them out. Sometime in the future I need to make baked brie. I have raspberry jam and apples, and the recipe this girl posted to facebook says all else I would need to purchase is crescent roll dough in a tube, brie, maple syrup, and if I make it at sherbrook, brown sugar. It's apparently also a fast recipe.

So the other large part of today is calling people: already did the dad-call, but my mom, grandma, godfather, and possibly his niece all also want to be called, probably. I talked to my brother on the facebook IM last night after he posted pics from this summer in Boston... that should be enough.

Anyway, more things are happening with food kbai.

PS Pravda? will contain marzipan gayness now.
