Jun. 10th, 2008 09:44 pmToday I was hardcore receipt packrat girl.
Knowing I had to call my mom once I figured out how to coax my phone charger back into full functionality, I went down to the HUB today after work to fix the place on my account where it charges me the $25 I already paid for a lost ID. (In other news, FUCK Student Activities... I dropped my KGB office card Thursday, 5 minutes later some helpful asshole has already picked it up, and I still don't know where it is. Student Activities was not helpful by phone or email. Clearly you just have to visit these people and take their bitchiness face-to-face. Don't show weakness.) So sitting at the desk all day because Jeanna was always down the hall or eating lunch or at a special class thing... I flip through the receipts in my wallet. Score. April 18th, $25.00, paid in cash.
I take this down to the HUB, they're all lolohnoes! and push me across the hall to the card office, where the lady seems to remember me and gets everything sorted out in about 15-20 minutes. She was all, dude, where did you find this thing? It was totally just chilling in my wallet, alongside receipts from the Lowe's and Wal-Mart runs I took with Kathy the day I arrived in PGH, a receipt for hash browns and cini minis from the xkcd trip (made me SO HAPPY!), receipts from my mom's christmas presents and the deposit I made to my FL savings account while I was working there over break, receipts from that day chris was sick and I bought him a huge box of tissues, he told me to go away and I bought fridgebox baking soda and ink pens and stuff at rite aid on the way home, receipts from shit for roboceptionist, and a fuckton of receipts from since I moved off campus and broke free of the meal plan. But shit, man, story of my life. I also apparently like to check out while grocery shopping between 9 and 10 PM. I don't know why I saved all this shit, but I'm afraid to throw it out now, because it says so much!
I did end up calling my mom, who asked if she could throw away the first flowers my first boyfriend gave me (throw that shit out, mom, I'm not moving that with me everywhere I go for the rest of my life), gave me flight info (June 24th, arrives in Boston at 1 PM; June 29th, back in PGH at 10:30 AM), and little else useful except that Jim already got rid of the dog. He's too used to living alone. I am not too sad.
My brother said he was throwing out my things in the bathroom via facebook IM last night. Weird, huh? I told him save the makeup, because that was something I apparently still need for dance and about which I had totally forgotten. He said he's bringing it to Boston? I said also bring my top hat so I can look like a dandy on the plane. Must remember suitcase with excess space; Grandma's always giving away things anyway. She saved things for so many years, and is now threatening to throw out family photos??
The eighth vegetarian cookbook has arrived. I made fried rice-style ramen because I feel like making more different rice in a couple days. I feel like maybe I don't get this using recipes to cook better food thing. Next grocery shopping trip, though, I will get my shit together and buy food with a purpose. Also tortillas. Fucking useful. How did I get by without them this past week or so?
See, Mal, lj is not always just for emos.

Date: 2008-06-11 02:09 am (UTC)And you didn't say they were the first flowers the dude had given you. Heh. Why did your mom even still have them? Why hadn't they dried up and crumpled into bits, or whatever it is flowers do when they get too old?

Date: 2008-06-11 02:27 am (UTC)My mom, at various points, had the entire between kitchen and family room windowsill and perimeter of the kitchen sink lined with shriveled dried-up flowers in vases and big gulp cups. It's classy. She does that.
