Arar.

Currently in Shadyside because I exceeded my bandwidth downloading DS videos. Morning surprise! The downloads kept fucking up, so I had to re-download the huge files, and all my CAT5 was in Shadyside, so I was using CMU wireless' sad quota. So I'm downloading them here. Heh. Our internet is actually quite fast. I really need to get a longer CAT5 cable, though, because the router's diagonally across my room, it's a pretty big room, and I don't have a wireless card in my tower. My dad thinks I do, but I can't find any suitable place to screw on the little antenna dongler machin-truc.

I should also paint something to go up on my mantel (seems apropos for a fireplace in one's bedroom), whenever I decide to go all the way out to the Waterfront again. And I may look around again for cubbyholes, hooks, closet-things and mirrors when I am at Construction Junction Saturday. Exciting stuff.

Not boyfriend. Although it is pretty sexy?

So a couple weeks ago I acquired an IBM Selectric II typewriter. I just tried it out this week, discovering that contrary to what its previous owner had said, it was NOT in working order. After any keystroke, the hyphen key repeatedly fires. This is not terribly shocking, because the hyphen/underline key is one of the "typamatic" keys on this model that are supposed to be able to type repeatedly if held down. The problem is that I'm not holding it down. It just does this. I suspect something in the machine is caught somewhere, but I don't want to take it apart and end up breaking it.

So I called the sketchy typewriter place in Oakland, and I hear this man on the other end of the line that sounds like he's got a brown mustache, large front teeth, and aviators. He tells me that the minimum service charge for an IBM is $89.95 and that it includes cleaning and full service and all that. I told him I just want to know what's wrong with it, but he's got no sympathy. Maybe that's why there are such nice cars out front, if the going rate for just looking at a machine is effectively $90.

Also, the font elements I ordered for it were lost by UPS. Still waiting to hear back on those. The seller says it's never happened to him before. Lawl!

Super weird, though; I had thought I was so lucky with respect to these typewriter affairs because I heard back so soon about a nice model. It's even green!

So if anyone gadgety wants to help me realize my dream of having a functioning typewriter... heh.

Part of the experience of serial comics is all of the cheesy ads they stick in there. Mallory, looking at pictures over my shoulder, laughed at all the Kung Fu-related marketing in a certain comic I was reading. She asked when "Kung Fu Fighting" came out. Trusty Wikipedia says 1974 and that it made #1 in December of that year. This comic? Published October 1974. Lots of martial arts movies were also the rage in the 60s and 70s. Hmm.

Instant muscle growth, however, appears to be timeless.
